New Treasurer Elected

Thanks to all of the IDL SIG members who voted, we now have a new Treasurer: Cindy Pao. Cindy has been helping with the programs committe and has already helped coordinate some of our financial efforts. We look forward to having her take on this position. A heartfelt thanks goes out to Gary Samartino who has been our SIG Treasurer for the last couple of years.

Web Page Updates Taking Place Now!

Please bear with us as we are trying to implement the shopping cart feature so you can purchase the much-awaited archived IDL SIG Web seminars. Once we have everything ready, you’ll see a GRAND announcement here and through our normal discussion and announcement lists.

What’s New – February 2010

The IDL SIG Committee leaders met this last week to discuss progress towards our goals and begin planning for the 2010 Technical Communication Summit in Dallas May 2-5th.

• We’re beginning our conference planning, if you are interested in volunteering with our SIG at the conference, please contact volunteers@stcidlsig.org or manager@stcidlsig.org.
• We are working on adding a page about the conference to our site, which will include details about IDL conference events, as well as virtual interaction opportunities while at the conference. Before the conference, look for details about SIG activities, which will include a committee reception, networking breakfast, and open business meeting.
• If you’re interested in submitting an article in our quarterly newsletter, the deadline is March 30th. Reach out to newsletter@stcidlsig.org to discuss article ideas.
• We’re working on ideas for using Twitter for IDL topics. If you’re interested in working with our team on this effort, we’d love to have someone with some Twitter knowledge. Contact volunteers@stcidlsig.org or manager@stcidlsig.org to get involved.
• Historically survey results have only been published in our quarterly newsletter. We’ve now begun posting survey results to our Web site too. Under Member communications, select Surveys to see results from the 2009 surveys.

What’s New – January 2010

The IDL SIG committees have been busy; here are some recent accomplishements:

• Winter newlsetter published (see Newsletter tab)
• Scholarship applications are now being accepted (see Scholarship tab). This includes our traditional scholarships as well as the new STC Summit scholarships we’re offering.
• Updates to our Resources page. Check out this updated page to see recommended IDL resources. You can also now submit your own recommendations for resources you recommend!
• IDL Buzzwords - started on our discussion list, we’re now maintaining a page to capture your favorite IDL buzzwords. See what terms bother other members, and contribute your own!
• Our Programs Committee is setting up an exciting program for 2010. See the SIG Events page for upcoming Webinars.
