Each year, the Society for Technical Communication awards members who have offered extensive service and exemplary commitment to their communities. Each community nominates one or more members for an award around November. The STC evaluates the nominations and presents its recommendations to the STC board of directors for approval. The STC announces the winners in the following calendar year.
We are proud to announce the Instructional Design & Learning SIG’s Distinguished SIG Service Award (DSSA) recipient:
Ruth-Anne Klassen joined the IDL SIG as a student member in 2021. An eager volunteer, she took on the role of Student Liaison immediately and engaged with students to join the IDL SIG membership. She actively supported First Fridays at 5, our student-run meetup, by attending chats and presenting during these sessions.
From 2022 through 2023, Ruth-Anne filled the Secretary’s role, wrote newsletter articles, helped with the Student Outreach Article Writing Competition (SOAWC), updated the IDL SIG’s Student menu on the website, and led the 10th Annual Virtual Open House.
The citation reads:
For your sustained contributions to the Instructional Design & Learning SIG including but not limited to fostering student engagement at multiple levels, serving as SIG secretary for multiple years, and magnificently coordinating the SIG’s annual virtual open house in 2023.
Our deepest thanks to Ruth-Anne for her service to the IDL SIG, and heartiest congratulations for her well-deserved DSSA!
