Reflections of an STC newcomer

By Andrew Rouse, IDL SIG Member

About 6 months ago I saw a job listing for a “UX writer” for a newfangled digital therapeutics company. At the time, I had never heard of UX, but the job description captured my imagination. Basically, it consisted of taking health information and presenting it in a way that non-experts could read and understand. With a Master’s in Applied Linguistics and fairly wide-ranging employment experience, I didn’t have the exact experience to put together a strong application for that position, but I wasn’t far off. Margot Bloomstein was the opening keynote speaker at the 2022 Summit. She is a respected content strategist and author who has worked with many large companies to improve their marketing strategies. She is the author of Trustworthy: How the Smartest Brands Beat Cynicism and Bridge the Trust Gap and Content Strategy at Work: Real-World Stories to Strengthen Every Interactive Project and is the principal of Appropriate, Inc., a brand and content strategy consultancy based in Boston.

Membership Report – 2022 Q2

By Marcia Shannon, Membership Manager

Our SIG continued to welcome new and returning members throughout second quarter. I spent a bit of time analyzing the membership roster because I was curious about who joins IDL. Students and new tech comm professionals are 14% and 9% of our membership. There are several ways to segment our SIG population, but these figures interested me the most. They represent a group of TC practitioners and students who participate in growing the profession and themselves. Thanks for being here. Continue reading “Membership Report – 2022 Q2”

As of June 15, 2022, we have $939.30 in our account – $646.38 from community funding and $292.92 in our vested funds.

Community funding comes from the STC office, based on SIG membership numbers. We must use these funds during the calendar year or forfeit them. On the other hand, vested funds come from income we have generated from any paid events we host. These funds can carry over year after year. Continue reading “IDL SIG Treasurer Report – 2022 Q2”
