IDL Student Article Competition

By Marcia Shannon

We are happy to announce that we are holding a student article writing competition this fall. All submitters will receive feedback about their articles. The best of show entry will be awarded a 2024 STC Student Membership and a 2024 IDL SIG Membership and have their article published in IDeaL’s 2024 first quarter newsletter. This online publication can be linked in the author’s resume and/or website. Other entries may be  invited to have their articles published in the newsletter throughout 2024. Submitters keep copyright to their work.

What to do and when to do it

To get started, download the complete Entry Package. The package has contributor guidelines, a list of topics in instructional design, frequently asked questions, the submission form (to complete and submit with your article), and a final checklist.

Review all of the materials and choose your article topic. Use the email address at the end of this article to ask any questions.

Then write an article or edit an article you have written earlier. Entries must be between 750 and 1,500 words.

Use the final checklist in the entry package to make sure your work follows the guidelines.

Submit your work before midnight (in the submitter’s time zone) on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. You will receive confirmation that your entry was received by Friday, November 17, 2023.

Judging will take place between Monday, November 20, 2023, and Friday, December 4, 2023.

Winners will be notified by email no later than Monday, January 8, 2024.

Educators: please encourage your students to take part by sharing this information, by suggesting work that they should submit, or by assigning a class project to submit entries.
